  • Open the VFW11E directory

    Running Learn to Sail!!

    1. Be sure the disc is in the CD ROM drive.
    2. From Program Manager, double click the icon Learn to Sail!! in the ScanRom Publications Program Group.

    Navigation

Navigation through Learn to Sail!! is simple and orderly. Following these few tips should prevent you from running into problems.

    Mouse clicking

    1. The program responds to a single click of the mouse. Be patient when navigating through this program. The computer processes large amounts of data in order to show pictures, play videos, animations and digital audio. If the cursor is in the shape of an hourglass, it means that your CPU is processing; wait before proceeding.
    2. Do not try to play 2 videos at the same time. If you are playing a video and would like to play another, stop the current one and then call up the other. This is done by clicking on the stop button then selecting the next video. Most of the audio clips and many of the video clips can be stopped by pressing escape.
    3. Do Not Remove the CD-ROM! Once you have started Learn to Sail!!, do not remove the CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive until after you exit the program. If you remove it from the CD-ROM drive, you will get an error message. If this occurs, replace the Learn to Sail!! disc in the CD-ROM drive and click "RETRY." Pressing "CANCEL" will result in an unexpected application error and cause the program to quit. If this occurs, restart Windows to avoid further errors.

    Out of Memory Messages

At least 4 megabytes of RAM is recommended for this program. Even if you have 4 megabytes of RAM you may experience memory errors. If you find yourself getting error messages due to lack of memory, follow this alternate procedure for running Learn to Sail!!

    1. Start Learn to Sail!! as usual.
    2. Go to the section you would like to work in.
    3. Minimize the window by clicking on the left arrow (or, in Win 95', the minimize lines ) in the right hand corner of the screen.
    4. Close the main table of contents. This will free up about 600 meg of memory.

    GPF's

If you are experiencing GPF's, general protection faults, it may be a conflict with your video driver. Try the Windows standard VGA driver to see if the problems still occur or call your manufacturer for an upgrade. We have provided available links
    to the driver manufacturers.

    Sound and Video

The wav (audio) files for this Title are ADPCM compressed. They can be played on 16bit and 8bit cards. You must install the version of Video for Windows that is included on the CDrom if you don't already have it. This will enable the playback of the wav files and videos files. If you are using a Sound Blaster 16, you may have a problem with running the videos. What will happen is that after playing a video that has audio, you will no longer have audio. There is a fix for this; a self extracting file, sb16up.exe. You can acquire this update by either calling Creative Labs or by downloading it from the Creative Labs forum on Compuserve, their BBS, 405-742-6660 or the web Creative Labs
